Back to all places

Train Sóller Station, nestled in the vibrant city of Palma de Mallorca, stands as a testament to early 20th-century engineering and transport development in the Balearic Islands.

Inaugurated in 1912, the station became the starting point of the historic train line that connects Palma with the charming town of Sóller, a route celebrated for its stunning scenery and vintage travel experience.

The station itself, boasting classic architecture with its colorful ceramic tiles and traditional wooden features, imparts a sense of nostalgia and offers a glimpse into the era when rail travel was a centerpiece of progress and modernity.

Integral to the economic and social transformations of the island, the Train Sóller Station facilitated the brisk transportation of Sóller’s vibrant citrus fruit trade, particularly its renowned oranges and lemons, to the larger marketplaces of Palma, boosting commerce in the early 1900s. Alessandro Rosselló, the Mayor of Palma at the time, played a significant role in the realization of this railway line, promoting it as a crucial infrastructure project to enhance connectivity and stimulate the local economy. The railway project’s ambition attracted various engineers, including the reputed Pere Garau, whose efforts were pivotal in overcoming the formidable terrain between Palma and Sóller.

Today, the station remains a beloved historical landmark, drawing tourists who revel in its quaint charm and the railway’s timeless appeal. Its enduring legacy is celebrated annually on the 16th of July, marking the inaugural journey made over a century ago.
