Sineu
Back to all places
Nestled in the heart of the Balearic Islands, Sineu is a town rich with historical significance and Mediterranean charm. Its origins trace back to the Roman period, when it was established as a strategic settlement.
Sineu’s most notable landmark, the Sineu Market, holds the distinction of being one of the oldest livestock markets in Mallorca, dating back to the 14th century. The town was historically a royal seat, with monarchs such as King James II choosing it as their residence in the 13th century.
Visitors to Sineu can admire the striking architecture of the Santa Maria Church, which dates back to 1248, exemplifying the transition of architectural styles over centuries. The town’s street patterns still reflect its medieval layout, inviting visitors to wander through picturesque corners steeped in stories of the past. Besides the market, Sineu also boasts a range of traditional Mallorcan houses, local eateries, and artisan shops, offering a true taste of Mallorcan culture. The annual Fiesta de Sant Marc, held each April, celebrates Sineu’s agricultural traditions with parades, music, and festivities that draw crowds from around the island.
