S’Hort del Rei

Nestled in the heart of Palma, S’Hort del Rei boasts a rich historical tapestry that dates back to the early Middle Ages. Originally part of the royal gardens of the Almudaina Palace, the site has undergone numerous transformations over the centuries. It served as the lush gardens connected to the royal household during the Islamic rule in the 10th century, featuring intricate waterworks and horticultural artistry that reflected the sophistication of Moorish landscaping. With the conquest of the Balearic Islands by King James I of Aragon in 1229, the gardens were preserved and became entwined with the cultural shifts of medieval Spain. Over the years, this historic garden has been redesigned to reflect various architectural styles, showcasing Gothic, Renaissance, and contemporary influences.

Today, visitors to S’Hort del Rei can wander through its verdant pathways, adorned with historical remnants and modern art sculptures, offering a serene glimpse into Palma’s regal past and its enduring legacy of cross-cultural influence.
