Nestled in the picturesque Serra de Tramuntana, the Santuari de Lluc stands as a beacon of spiritual significance and cultural heritage in Majorca. Established in the 13th century following the miraculous discovery of a Virgin Mary statue by a Moorish shepherd, this monastery and pilgrimage site has become an enduring symbol of devotion. Perched at an elevation of 525 meters, it is surrounded by the formidable peaks of the Majorcan landscape, including the imposing Puig de Massanella.
The sanctuary’s heart and soul are brought to life by the renowned boys’ choir, Els Blauets, founded in 1531, whose performances continue to captivate audiences worldwide.
Lluc is not only a spiritual haven but also a hub for education and tourism, boasting a boarding school and facilities catering to the many visitors drawn to its serene atmosphere. Each year, the sanctuary serves as the endpoint of an annual nocturnal pilgrimage from Palma, illustrating its enduring importance to the local community. A botanical garden trail behind the monastery furthers its commitment to preserving Majorca’s natural heritage, offering insights into the rich biodiversity of the mountain region.
