Parc Natural de s’Albufera des Grau
Back to all places
Nestled in the heart of Menorca, the Parc Natural de s’Albufera des Grau stands as a testament to the island’s commitment to preserving its rich natural heritage. Officially declared a natural park in 1995, this diverse ecosystem spans over 5,000 hectares and represents the nucleus of the UNESCO-designated Menorca Biosphere Reserve.
The park is named after the Albufera des Grau, the largest freshwater lake on the island, which acts as a crucial habitat for a plethora of waterfowl, including various migratory bird species.
This natural haven not only encompasses wetlands but also features rugged coastlines, lush pine forests, and historical farmlands, offering a rich tapestry of landscapes.
The area’s historical significance is further underscored by archaeological sites dating back to the Talayotic culture, providing insights into the early human inhabitants of Menorca.
Today, the park serves as a sanctuary not only for wildlife but also for the souls seeking tranquility amidst its serene beauty. With numerous walking trails and observation points, visitors have the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the island’s pristine environment and witness the harmonious coexistence of nature and history.
