Palma Aquarium

Palma Aquarium, established in 2007, is a distinguished marine attraction situated in Palma, Mallorca, Spain. Conceived by Coral World International, the facility is strategically located 500 meters from the renowned Playa de Palma beach.

Spanning an impressive area, the Aquarium boasts 55 meticulously curated tanks that display an astounding array of over 700 marine species sourced from the Mediterranean and the Indian, Atlantic, and Pacific Oceans.

Among its prominent features, the "Big Blue" tank stands out as Europe’s deepest shark tank at 8.5 meters, housing an extensive collection of vibrant live coral.

In its inaugural year, the Aquarium was recognized with the "Best Business Initiative in the Balearics 2007" award by Actualidad Económica magazine and the "2007 Accessibility Prize" by the Consell de Mallorca.

As a hub for conservation and environmental advocacy, Palma Aquarium actively conducts environmental programs and participates in campaigns aimed at marine preservation.

Drawing approximately 400,000 visitors annually, it serves as an educational and recreational venue. Visitors experience a comprehensive journey through the world’s marine ecosystems, starting with the Mediterranean Sea exhibit, where the rich diversity of marine life is showcased, including species like starfish, lobsters, octopuses, and seahorses. The aquarium’s interactive Touch Pools offer guests a chance for tactile engagement with sea creatures. Within its "Tropical Seas" exhibit, visitors are treated to a spectacle of tropical biodiversity, with displays including clownfish, blacktip reef sharks, and a remarkable variety of corals.

The aquarium distinguishes itself with its authentic live coral reproductions and pioneering coral breeding programs that successfully cultivate new coral colonies on-site. The Mediterranean Gardens, an outdoor space, provide a blend of native plant species and aquariums featuring turtles, koi fish, and stingrays. It hosts family-friendly activities, particularly during the summer, with interactive stations and entertainment for children. Adding to its ecological highlights is the "Jungle" area, the largest rooftop garden in Spain, replicating a tropical rainforest climate conducive to Amazonian flora.

Palma Aquarium also offers thrilling activities such as diving excursions with sharks and the unique "Shark Sleepover," where children camp beside the impressive Big Blue tank. Supporting marine biodiversity through research, it is engaged in coral reef reproduction and rehabilitation, campaigns to protect the endangered Mediterranean Blue Fin Tuna, and projects for local flora conservation like Limonium barceloi. The facility collaborates with universities and research centers in initiatives for species facing extinction threats.

Overall, the Aquarium not only provides an immersive experience into the marine wonders but also steadfastly promotes marine conservation and education, making it a notable landmark for both visitors and researchers dedicated to safeguarding marine life.
