Far de Tramuntana

Perched sentinel-like on Sa Dragonera Island, the steadfast Far de Tramuntana lighthouse has been guiding mariners through the Mediterranean since its construction in 1852. Recognized for its classic cylindrical architecture, the lighthouse stands amid panoramic vistas of azure waters and rugged cliffs.

Sa Dragonera Island itself bears a rich tapestry of history, having been inhabited since Roman times and was a strategic point for shipping routes during the 19th century. Besides its instrumental role in navigation, the island and lighthouse are part of a natural park, preserving the local ecosystem and reinforcing Spain’s commitment to conservation efforts. The lighthouse was automated in 1974, marking a new chapter in its storied past.

Today, it remains a beacon not only of maritime security but also of the enduring interplay between human history and natural beauty.
