Coll de Sóller Ma-11A

Coll de Sóller, located on the Ma-11A in the Balearic Islands of Spain, is a mountain pass with a rich history that serves as a picturesque transit point between the town of Sóller and Palma de Mallorca.

This serpentine road, often celebrated for its challenging but rewarding winding curves, has roots dating back to the early 20th century, when it became an essential route for the transportation of goods, particularly the famous oranges from Sóller’s orchards. In the late 19th century, the isolation of Sóller from Palma prompted the construction of this vital road, which remained one of the primary pathways to the town until the opening of the Sóller Tunnel in 1997.

The road ascends to an elevation of 497 meters, providing breathtaking views of the surrounding Tramuntana Mountain range, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Historically, this route was not only significant for trade but also for facilitating cultural exchanges, as it united the local communities in the region with Mallorca’s capital for centuries.

Today, the Coll de Sóller remains a popular destination for cyclists and tourists, offering a glimpse into the vibrant history and rugged beauty of Mallorca.
