Castell d’Alaró

Perched atop Puig d’Alaró on the island of Mallorca, Castell d’Alaró stands as a testament to the region’s turbulent history and remarkable architectural resilience.

Traces of human activity at this strategic location date back to Moorish times, marking it as a site of prolonged importance. The castle we see today has origins in the 13th century, following the Christian reconquest of the island. Notably, in 1285, the legendary resistance of the castle against the forces of King Alfonso III of Aragon exemplified its strategic might. Castell d’Alaró’s importance continued in subsequent centuries, serving both defensive and residential purposes. It became a stage for a decisive battle in 1343 during King Peter IV of Aragon’s campaign, further embedding its place in the military history of the Balearic Islands.

The remnants of the fortress now yield breathtaking views, inviting visitors not only to appreciate its architectural grandeur but also to reflect on the storied events that have unfolded within its walls over centuries.

Today, it remains a captivating blend of history and natural beauty, drawing history enthusiasts eager to walk the same paths once trod by its storied defenders.
