Isla Cabrera, part of the Balearic Islands archipelago, boasts a rich history dating back centuries. Once a sanctuary for pirates and smugglers due to its strategic location in the Mediterranean, the island’s history took a dramatic turn during the Napoleonic Wars.
Following the Battle of Bailén in 1808, Cabrera became a prison for French soldiers, with thousands enduring harsh conditions on its rugged terrain. The island’s strategic importance continued into the 20th century when it played a role during the Spanish Civil War as a military outpost.
Today, Isla Cabrera is a designated National Park, known for its unspoiled natural landscapes and diverse marine life, attracting historians and nature lovers alike to explore its past and present exclusivity.
